It’s an interesting question, even if a little bit gross. And the answer is – Yes, mice do pass wind.

Since we’re talking bodily functions in mice…mice can’t throw up or burp, which is why certain foods, fizzy drinks, and so on can cause them some serious tummy pain or even be fatal.

Mice and other rodents for that matter can, however, fart, pass wind, expel gas from their behinds, however you feel comfortable describing it.

Now, I have kept mice for many years and I can’t for sure say I’ve seen, heard, or smelled any mice farts.

I’m working on a combination of research I’ve done into this topic (yep, I trawled the internet reading as much as I could about mice farts), some common sense, and an educated answer.

Mice poop, just as other mammals do. Which is the main indication that if they have gas in their intestines they are able to pass it.

Their inability to vomit is something unique to very few species of animals. It’s largely due to mice having a longer esophagus and the complications this causes with their reflux mechanism.

I know what the next question is going to be, ‘what does a mice fart smell like?’

It’s human nature to be interested in bodily functions and other gross things, so don’t worry it’s perfectly normal.

I can’t answer this however. I don’t think anyone can, unless there have been some scientific studies carried out under some specific conditions where they can capture and isolate the gas.

While there have been scientific studies into almost everything imaginable, I can’t find any evidence that this has been documented in a scientific paper yet.

Maybe this is the chance you’ve been waiting for to carry out a groundbreaking study that’s never been done before!

Jokes aside, the best guess is that a mice fart will smell just like mice poop, which isn’t a desirable smell.
