What Can Mice Chew Through

Here are some of the more commonly found materials those little rodents can chew through. So avoid using these materials to try and keep them out. If you have areas where these kinds of materials are used, check very carefully for holes. No matter how small the holes are fill them in with a material mice cannot chew through.

Can Mice Chew Through Kevlar

Yes. kevlar is a strong rubber material used to reinforce constructions and materials being joined together. Mice can work their way through kevlar so you cannot rely on this to keep them out of your home.

Can Mice Chew Through Rope Caulk

Yes they can. Rope caulk will not keep mice out. They are able to get their teeth into this material quite easily and start to gnaw away until they make a large enough hole to get through and into wherever they are going.

Can Mice Chew Through Rubber

Yes absolutely. Rubber is terrible at keeping mice at bay. You don’t have to worry about your car tyres or anything like that. But if rubber is the way of a mouse and it’s desire to get into your home they will chew through it. They can cause considerable damage to windows and seals around doors by chewing on them. It can be quite costly.

Can Mice Chew Through Wood

Yup. You guessed it, mice can and will chew through wood. If you have a lot of mice in your garden they can cause quite a mess of a shed by gnawing all over it and making holes. There is of course the iconic hole in the wooden skirting board look from cartoons and films. This doesn’t actually happen of course.

Can Mice Chew Through Hardware Cloth

Yes. This is a question that comes up from time to time but it’s a fairly easy one to answer. Mice will chew through cloths will out any hesitation.

Can Mice Chew Through Insulation

Yes they can. Loft insulation in particular can be chewed through and will not stop mice getting and moving around your loft or attic. If you have mice running underneath loft insulation you need to add a hardboard flooring across the top.

Can Mice Chew Through Plastic

Yes. There are a lot of different types and grades of plastic but as a general rule plastic will not be strong enough to stop mice.

Can Mice Chew Through Duct Tape

Yes. This might seem like common sense on the most part. But a lot of people use duct tape to repair pipes without thinking about the possibility that mice caused the damage and might be back. If you see bite marks on the duct tape you know the culprits.

Can Mice Chew Through Drywall

Yes they can. Most people think they are safe with some drywall between them and the mice outside. But if the mice have decided they want to get in, it’s not going to stop them. It can take a while for the mice to work their way through, but they certainly can.

Can Mice Chew Through Tin Foil

Yes. The idea of chewing through tin foil makes most people cringe. But not mice, they will chew it and make a hole fairly easily. While you should not be patching up holes in your walls with tin foil you can be sure any food will not be safe.

Can Mice Chew Through Expanding Foam

Yes. Expanding foam is a common and quick way to fill in holes in walls, you just spray the foam in and let it form and harden. Mice will chew through this easily though so it’s not going to solve that problem at all.
